I've shopped at most of the waterstones stores in my region, fantastic they are. Before the age of the Internet they were a revelation, larger than any bookshop ever opened in most towns and cities, they had a selection unmatched. The prices were reasonable, but back when I shopped there, discounts were a rare thing. I suspect they are much more common now that online retailers, specifically Amazon have entered the market. To be fair I've done all my book shopping online for the past five years at amazon. The choice is more extensive, they are opened 24/7, the delivery service is superb, and the price cannot be beaten by most high street chains. But that's not to say I'd be happy to see the end of waterstones, I am still fond of walking around and being able to read the books before I buy them. That's one major thing lacking from the online retailers, you cannot browse the internals of the books.
