M&S fortunes have been turned around by Stuart Rose, you may remember they were in deep trouble a 3-4 years ago, with falling sales and a rumoured takeover by Philip Green. I have to commend Marks and Sparks are updating their stores to modern standards, with a younger line of clothes and some really cool adverts. But I must regress about the food market. Until recently it was one of the main reasons for M&S bumper profits. However, as the credit crunch has hit, so has the fortunes of M&S food, people simple don't have money to afford their relatively expensive foods. I've noticed they have tried to do a meal for twenty quid, or is it ten quid, to entice new customers. It hasn't me, twenty pounds is still a large sum of money. But what I've noticed, especially with M&S cakes, is that the price has stayed the same, but they have made them smaller. M&S have always been sneaky in this respect, they often resort to lowering the size of their portions to keep profits bumper. The sad fact is that they never tell the consumer about the change, not right imo.
