I have to say I am surprised B&Q didn't name their site bandq.com, rather than diy.com. But I am more than impressed by the site they have put together. Easily the best of any diy company, it equals the choice found in their rw stores and the availability of the products online is always good. I haven't suffered any problems with the majority of my orders. But on the last occasion B&Q debited my card for a Apex Metal Shed which was not in stock. I was given a courtesy call explaining it was an error with their computer system. But I think it is poor form to debit a card for goods which did not exist. I will give B&Q the benefit of the doubt this time, but I won't use them if the problem occurs again.

I bought a bbq (from B & Q) at the week-end at a `clearance` Price (because it wasn`t boxed) - only to discover that it was not the item as described on the receipt - so on returning it - and negotiating - I was offered the correct item (a display model on the floor) - at the same Price - that was fine !

However - when I came to assemble it on Sunday morning (the day of our BBQ party) - I discovered that parts were missing ! - and also there were no instructions (for assembly or safety purposes) - which was important as this was an electronic ingnition system appliance with cylinder gas involved !

Unfortuantely - after several calls to both store and Head Office - I have not been given a satisfactory reply.
In fact the store have suggested that they are not prepared to give me the required `missing` parts from another appliance - and that I should return the goods for a refund ! (if I am not satisfied with my purchase)
I don`t believe I am being unreasonable in expecting to have all of the parts plus a manual ? (for my money) - at no time during the transaction was it mentioned that this was a `clearance` Price due to `missing` parts (plus manual)

They refuse to give me another appliance - new, in a box with all necessary parts !

I feel strongly that I should be entitled to have the appliance which I supposedly purchased originally - complete with all parts plus instructions (operating & safety)

Trading Standards have advised that goods should bit `fit for purpose` which they obviously were not !

I am angered and frustrated by this treatment - and I am further amazed at the Company HQ`s lack of overriding obligation to act fairly in such matters - but rather place undue pressure on store Managers to be reponsible for `profitablitiy` as an absolute `priority` to the detrement of fair-play !

I sincerely hope that common sense will prevail over the next 24hrs - and that an initial contract of Purchase between 2 parties will be `honoured`

John
